Coopers Hawk & Old Crow

So as of today the sun set at 5:34 here in the Chicagoland regions. Yep- last call is coming for 'Ol Man Winter. But he's no lightweight, and he's still got time for a couple more belts, another dance. But they'll be draggin' him outta here soon enough.

Nelson stopped by the other morn to play some songs, and right after he got here we saw a Coopers Hawk snag a bird and chow down. Right outside the picture window, feathers flying. I felt responsible since I put out the bird seed. Them hawks swoop in on occasion but are rarely successful. So we downed the coffee and passed around my just acquired 1953 Gibson LG-2. LOVE that thing! Looks as if it's been around the block, kicked down the stairs, perhaps poked a fire or two. Repair guru Rick Cremer worked his magic and it plays/sounds great -gouges, cracks, scratches n' all.

Then last fri we ventured to Ft. Atkinson, WI to play an all time fave spot- legendary Cafe Carpe, run by very hospitable Bill & Kitty Camplin. Hadn't played there in a few years (new bathrooms?!) but it is one of the best sounding rooms ANYwhere. Holds only 50 + folks, and we had a full house. Then we played a couple songs with (local legend) Bill, who did a stellar set. Was a fun night, despite the Old Crow.

This fri, back local, we'll be heading to Berwyn- Fitzgeralds side bar. With Nelson's Heartsfield cohort Andon as master of ceremonies, we're gonna pass some songs around. Our 'ol pal Reyna Larson is in town from L.A., and I hear she's been writng new stuff, and Stevenson will drag his accordion over too. That'll keep me from watching the olympics...why, God, WHY did I not get into short track speed skating?!

Ok- gonna go put another pot o' water on the stove- poor man's humidifier.

See ya.
